Shiba Inu coin (SHIB) burst onto the cryptocurrency scene in August 2020, created anonymously by someone using the pseudonym Ryoshi. This meme coin, which features the Shiba Inu dog from the popular Dogecoin meme as its mascot, was launched shortly after Dogecoin started gaining immense popularity.

The purpose of Shiba Inu coin was to be an experiment in decentralized spontaneous community building.

Ryoshi has remained anonymous and there is no formal team behind the coin, in keeping with its grassroots, community-driven origins.

SHIB is an ERC-20 token that can be stored and transacted on platforms that support Ethereum. Despite its origins as a meme coin created as an alternative to the hype surrounding Dogecoin, Shiba Inu has gone on to become one of the top 20 cryptocurrencies by market capitalization, powered mostly by a passionate community base.

It calls itself the “Dogecoin Killer” and seeks to be a functional cryptocurrency that can be used for payments and transactions.
